The Head of Data & AI is a key leadership role within the Engineering Centre of Excellence, responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of our Customers’ Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Data & AI solutions.

You will play a crucial role in the development and management of the Data & AI team, being directly responsible for the success of this domain. You will balance the provision of domain expertise with the organisational skills to scale a team to potentially hundreds of Engineers. You will work closely with your peer leads across the business to promote excellence in Engineering while driving real value for our customers.

You will be a valued member of the Delivery Leadership team and as such you should have the talent and ability to proactively collaborate and suggest solutions which will benefit the wider group. The role reports to the Director of Engineering CoE and as such you will have a direct channel to facilitate change and empower the wider Engineering community. You will be the champion for exceptional Google Cloud Data & AI promoting secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions, supporting our customers critical business applications and services.

Responsibilities:

This is a high visibility role offering an unparalleled opportunity to deliver impactful business outcomes to our customers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Effective management of the CoE, ensuring agreed KPIs and metrics are achieved, optimised and improved where possible.
  • Ownership of the resourcing and growth strategy for the CoE, based on pipeline, delivery capacity and market developments.
  • Be fluent in advanced Google technologies and demonstrate a keen interest in continuous learning and mastery. Owning the career development plan for Engineers within the CoE.
  • Proactively identify enhancements, directing key engineering decisions, and maturing the overall vision of the department.
  • Provide a Domain SME interface to the pre-sales function, facilitating where deep technical assistance is required.
  • Promote the creation and innovation within delivery teams, optimising offerings based on feedback and ensuring continual improvement.
  • Be accountable for the internal IP development programmes within your CoE. Acting as a product owner and being responsible for its roadmap.
  • Provide strategic feedback to Appsbroker CTS and Google product development teams.
  • Contribute to brand promotion through blog posts, white papers, and presentations, solidifying our position as a leader in the field.
  • Lead discussions with customer technologists, fostering long-term relationships with senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of successful management and delivery of Data Professional Services for  Google Cloud solutions in large Enterprise customers.
  • Expert understanding of GCP Data specific products, services, frameworks and constructs in context of an enterprise setting.
  • Deep working knowledge of common enterprise data related non-functional requirements and how to gather those efficiently to a higher level of accuracy.
  • Excellent working understanding of common data privacy regulations in common sectors and geographies that Appsbroker CTS customers operate within.
  • Significant experience of stakeholder management across multiple verticals for both private and public sector organisations.
  • Experience of architecting cloud-native applications, with the ability to apply this knowledge to design pragmatic solutions on GCP.
  • Experience of leading Data & AI projects, preferably in a structured methodology such as Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Experience in Terraform and code delivery practices and tooling for effective CICD integration for Enterprise customers.
  • Proven experience in managing large engineering teams, promoting collaboration, inclusion and the empowerment of Engineers while promoting best practices.

Desirable Skills:

  • Official Engineering certification to a Professional level for a Cloud provider, preferably Google Cloud.

Location

This role can be either fully remote or hybrid based depending on your preference. We have offices in London, Manchester, Swindon and Edinburgh in the UK which you can choose to work from as often as you like. There may be occasions where you’d be expected to attend a meeting or customer event from time to time.
