About the Team

OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission. The Procurement team advises our business partners to make the best investments, ensures we acquire the resources needed for growth, and enables our mission through efficient procurement practices.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Global Contingent Workforce Leader to develop and manage our global CW strategy. You’ll set strategic direction, lead key initiatives, and ensure operational excellence across our contingent workforce program that promotes efficiency, compliance, and scalability. You'll also manage a small team and partner closely with senior leadership, external partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to build and sustain a high-performing contingent workforce that aligns with OpenAI's growth and strategic goals.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global and scalable contingent workforce strategy that aligns with OpenAI's business objectives and growth trajectory.

  • Lead the end-to-end implementation and management of a global Vendor Management System (VMS), ensuring seamless integration with existing HR and procurement technologies.

  • Architect and optimize scalable, efficient, and compliant business processes for sourcing, onboarding, managing, and offboarding contingent workers across multiple geographies and functions.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing contingent workforce management team.

  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with leading staffing agencies and service providers to negotiate favorable terms and ensure consistent delivery of top-quality talent.

  • Collaborate closely with senior leaders to proactively identify and address contingent talent needs, providing guidance and innovative solutions to support complex and rapidly evolving project requirements.

  • Ensure rigorous compliance with all applicable labor laws, regulations, and internal policies by implementing robust governance frameworks and conducting regular audits to mitigate risk and uphold ethical standards across all contingent workforce activities.

  • Leverage advanced analytics and data-driven insights to monitor program performance, inform strategic decisions, and drive continuous improvement (e.g. develop dashboards and reports).

  • Drive change management to facilitate the adoption of new systems, processes, and practices, effectively communicating the vision and value proposition to secure stakeholder buy-in and engagement.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging best practices in contingent workforce management, and integrate innovative approaches and technologies to maintain OpenAI's competitive edge in talent acquisition and management.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • Extensive Leadership Experience: 13+ years of progressive experience in contingent workforce management, procurement, or talent acquisition, with significant focus in leadership roles overseeing large-scale, global programs within high-growth technology organizations.

  • Strategic Vision and Execution: Proven ability to conceptualize and implement transformative workforce strategies that drive organizational effectiveness, scale, and competitive advantage.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep proficiency in deploying and managing advanced VMS and integrating them with broader HRIS and procurement ecosystems; familiarity with leading platforms and emerging technologies in workforce management.

  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrated success in reengineering complex business processes, optimizing workflows, and establishing robust operational frameworks that enhance efficiency, compliance, and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Exceptional Stakeholder Management: Strong track record of collaborating with C-suite executives and cross-functional leaders, effectively influencing and aligning diverse stakeholders towards common goals.

  • Global Compliance Acumen: In-depth knowledge of international labor laws and regulatory environments, with experience developing and enforcing compliance strategies that effectively manage risk across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Team Building and Development: Proven ability to recruit, lead, and develop high-caliber teams, cultivating an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
