Who we are

HII - Mission Technologies is seeking a visionary and experienced Generative AI & Business Application Lead to spearhead the integration of generative AI technologies across our business operations. This position can be based out of the Washington D.C., Virginia Beach, VA area or remote. This role involves driving the development and implementation of AI-driven solutions that enhance decision-making, automate processes, and create new value streams for the company. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of generative AI, experience in deploying AI applications in a business context, and a proven track record of leading innovative projects that align with strategic business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

AI Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the adoption and integration of generative AI technologies across the organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead the exploration, prototyping, and deployment of generative AI solutions, such as language models, image generation, and AI-driven content creation, to solve business challenges.
  • Serve as the principal AI advisor, providing strategic guidance and thought leadership to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.

Technology Development & Implementation:

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of generative AI models tailored to specific business needs, including mission technologies, shipyard modernization, and robotics.
  • Collaborate with data science, engineering, and product teams to build and scale AI applications that drive tangible business outcomes.
  • Ensure the AI models are ethical, explainable, and compliant with data privacy regulations, implementing robust monitoring and maintenance processes.

Innovation & Business Transformation:

  • Identify opportunities for generative AI to transform business processes, creating efficiencies, reducing costs, and unlocking new revenue streams.
  • Lead initiatives to embed AI into core business functions, such as shipyard quality, operations, and supply chain management, enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Drive innovation by staying current with advancements in AI, identifying and integrating emerging technologies that can provide competitive advantage.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Engagement:

  • Work closely with business leaders, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand their challenges and opportunities, translating them into AI-driven solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages the sharing of AI knowledge and best practices across the organization.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business units, ensuring that AI solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Data-Driven Insights & Performance Monitoring:

  • Implement systems to monitor and evaluate the performance of AI applications, ensuring they deliver expected business value and are continuously optimized.
  • Leverage AI-generated insights to inform strategic decisions, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experiences.

What you need to have:

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in AI development and deployment, with a focus on generative AI technologies.
  • Proven track record of leading successful AI projects from conception through to production, particularly in a business context.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving AI initiatives that align with business strategies.
  • Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and OpenAI technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and familiarity with cloud-based AI services (e.g., AWS, Google AI, Azure AI).
  • Strong understanding of AI ethics, data privacy, and the challenges of deploying AI in production environments.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking, with a focus on delivering business impact through AI.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Bonus points for:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
