DnA : Alation Developer – Senior : Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Alation Developer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data governance and metadata management, with a proven track record of working with the Alation Data CatLog platform. The Alation Developer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our data governance solutions to ensure that our data assets are accurately catalogued, easily accessible, and properly managed throughout their lifecycle.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement data governance frameworks using Alation to support data quality, data lineage, and metadata management.
• Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and other stakeholders to capture business glossaries, data dictionaries, and classification standards within Alation.
• Develop and maintain custom Alation models, workflows, and integrations with other data management tools and systems.
• Lead the curation and annotation of data sources within Alation to ensure accurate metadata, lineage, and stewardship information.
• Configure and customize Alation to align with organizational data governance policies and standards.
• Provide training and support to end-users on navigating and utilizing the Alation platform effectively.
• Work closely with the data governance team to identify opportunities for improving data quality and governance practices.
• Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new features and updates within the Alation platform.
• Ensure the security and compliance of data within Alation by implementing appropriate access controls and monitoring activities.
• Document technical specifications, design documents, and development processes.
• Good understanding on CLOUD development and Integrations (Azure / AWS)

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in data governance, 
• Strong experience with the Alation Data Catalog platform, including configuration, customization, and integration.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with database technologies.
• Familiarity with data governance principles, data quality, and data lineage concepts.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation and integration purposes is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
