Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to direct and manage a growing portfolio of Data & AI (D&A) Products that will accelerate and improve probability of success of Manufacturing & Engineering activities in GSK’s Global Supply Chain, directly aligned to GSC’s Smart Manufacturing Digital Transformation Program.  This role will act as a strategic bridge between business/PM and Tech/Data worlds, leveraging business domain understanding, D&A expertise, and technical skills to define and agree vision and roadmaps at the level of individual D&A products and for the Manufacturing & Engineering businesses.

This role will work closely with the Senior Director, Manufacturing & Engineering Data and AI, business leaders, Product managers, and other key stakeholders to identify technical opportunities, assess value, prioritise work and define technical requirements. It will work equally closely with product managers, Tech & Data experts and business representatives to design, deliver, embed and support high-quality D&AI solutions.

This role will have overall ownership of Manufacturing & Engineering D&A portfolio through direct management of some D&A Tech Products as well as oversight of other tech products, capabilities, architecture owned by the technical leads who will report to this role.  It will also directly and indirectly manage a sizable number of Contract Workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the technical POD for the manufacturing and engineering (M&E) team which includes data engineers, data scientist, data analytics, software engineers, solution architects and technical SME’s.
  • Working closely with the Manufacturing and Engineering Product Managers and Product owners to co-create the Product portfolio and champion the delivery of the Data and AI Products
  • Responsible for end to end delivery of the D&AI M&E products, Tech POD capacity planning, creating data and manufacturing/engineering standards, cloud & solutions architectures, etc.
  • Responsible for leading the technical design of the M&E products, working very closely with the horizontal teams including Architecture team, AI/ML team, Enterprice Architecture, Infrastrcture and Network team.
  • Lead the technical gate review process – ARB and AI goverance, working closely with the PMO POD to realise the product vision
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with Manufacturing & Engineering customer-groups and other key business stakeholders, proactively identifying and addressing their evolving needs
  • Strategically managing a technical pipeline of use-cases to build an integrated portfolio of Manufacturing & Engineering D&A products, leveraging business knowledge and emerging capabilities
  • Setting the standards for M&E team for agile ceremonies, ensuring appropriate prioritization, clear trade-offs, and effective management of dependencies with other teams
  • Overseeing development teams of internal and external D&A experts, ensuring clear requirements, timely decisions, and close collaboration with customers and other tech teams to reduce dependencies and remove blockers
  • Driving value maximisation throughout the tech product lifecycle, making prioritisation decisions, and ensuring business impact and value realisation in line with agreed KPIs
  • Leading the discussions with D&A Architecture team and other stakeholders to align D&A Product technical designs with target architecture and established standards, incorporating new technologies and patterns as needed
  • Ensuring overall quality and compliance of D&A Products, including GxP Validation if required
  • Managing, coaching, and guiding the wider Tech POD team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, team building and creating carrier path for the direct reporting within the Tech POD.
  • Will be responsible for managing industrialisation of the M&E products bridging new innovations which have demonstrated proof of value through to product teams who industrialise the solutions to live
  • Will be responsible for translation of solution components in to value opportunities for product teams to enable live value delivery at pace
  • Collaboratively partners and works across boundaries with D&A 'pillars' to seek continuous improvement opportunities and incremental End User Value

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in computer science, engineering or similar discipline and 18+ years of pharmaceutical, healthcare or other relevant experience, advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years managing cross-functional teams of solution architecture leadership roles in design, development, and execution in a global organization
  • Comprehensive understanding of Azure funcationalities, Data engineering, Industry 4.0, Cloud Purdue Model, S88 / S95 Models, RAMI 4.0 Functional Layers (Business, Functional, Information, Communication, Integration, Assets, Operations, Control), IIoT Industrial Internet, Factory of the Future, Industrial Internet, Streaming Analytics and Digital Twins
  • Exceptional strategic thought partner, ability to lead in strong co-creation and collaboration with Digital and business partners across GSK.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring creative ideas and drive digital innovation, leading with the customer in mind; has exceptional judgement about which innovations to pursue; able project how potential ideas may play out in the marketplace.
  • Experience across multiple architecture environments including ERP systems (e.g., SAP), MES, AI/ML models, Historians, customer facing technologies (e.g., Salesforce.com), and other enterprise technologies and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop talent and build effective teams. Excellent communication skills and the ability to indirectly influence key partners and stakeholders.
