The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) is Georgetown's center for teaching innovation, research, and excellence. At CNDLS, we enrich the academic experience by supporting faculty and the broader teaching community at Georgetown through a diverse array of programs & initiatives, services, and comprehensive teaching resources. The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship is central to Georgetown's mission to blend its educational traditions with the tools and opportunities of new learning environments. CNDLS promotes reflective learning experiences that effectively use technology to achieve defined teaching goals.

The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship seeks a Digital Learning & AI Specialist to drive innovation at the intersection of teaching and technology. This role is responsible for enhancing the instructional experience for both students and faculty through developing and applying advanced technological solutions founded on strong pedagogical principles. The specialist will research and promote emerging teaching and learning technologies, focusing on AI-driven solutions, as well as investigate, implement, and support state-of-the-art digital learning tools, ensuring their scalability and effectiveness. This position is integral to a team that aids faculty in all facets of pedagogical practice, including course and class design, educational technology integration, and learning space optimization, focusing on active learning. The team’s support extends to physical spaces, integrating technology use with thoughtful design to enhance the overall student experience. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Emerging Technologies and AI Implementation

  • Produce documentation to train staff and faculty on tools and space use.

  • Conduct webinars, training sessions, workshops, web resources, and consultations and share insights on the latest instructional technology trends.

  • Collaborate with UIS to facilitate AI integration and troubleshoot technical issues.

  • Help develop and update curricula to include AI competencies and ethical considerations.

  • Evaluate AI tools for accessibility and inclusivity to ensure all students benefit.

  • Research and apply best practices in AI to maintain academic integrity and prevent plagiarism.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

  • Coordinate and contribute to designing and delivering training sessions for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Stay updated with the latest AI and digital learning advancements, ensuring the CNDLS remains at the forefront of educational innovation.

Support and Integration of Learning Technologies

  • Support enterprise learning technologies, including but not limited to Canvas, Zoom, Proctorio, Panopto, and other tools.

  • Develop comprehensive documentation, how-to guides, and screencasts to communicate innovative pedagogical practices.

Faculty Collaboration and Issue Resolution

  • Work closely with faculty to understand and address their needs, developing detailed solutions and documenting outcomes.

  • Lead projects related to online programs and implementing and supporting new technologies.

  • Other Duties may include: supporting Canvas course design and implementation, online course support, etc.

Work Interactions

The Digital Learning & AI Specialist reports to the Director of Digital Learning and collaborates with CNDLS staff, University Information Services (UIS), Classroom Educational Technology Services (CETS), and the Library. Proactive, ethical use of AI in education is a University priority, and this position supports that priority.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in instructional technology, preferably in higher education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s Degree preferred

  • Functional knowledge of HTML and basic web standards, including accessibility

  • Applied knowledge of AI tools and APIs to enhance teaching and research processes, including technical knowledge of advanced GPTs

  • Some experience in AI development and applications

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:

    • Programming languages such as Python, R, Java, C++, or similar

    • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and containerization tools (e.g., Docker)

    • Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure for deploying and managing AI solutions

  • Strong ability in problem solving, strong analytical skills to address complex issues, courage to take calculated risks, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide variety of stakeholders, many of which may not have a technical background

  • Proficiency in Canvas, Zoom, Panopto, and/or other learning management systems

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects efficiently

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
