Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our Global Predictive Science Team! Within this role you will be working within Global Product Biology and across R&D functions to bring new insights for active ingredient development by developing predictive models, while guiding design, optimization and development of novel crop protection solution. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing predictive models using historical data.
  • Identifying modeling opportunities, while understanding scientific problems to drive business value.
  • Driving strategic business initiatives across Crop Protection R&D working with physical chemistry, biokinetic, formulation, marketing and environmental data to support decision taking and model laboratory, glasshouse and field experiments.
  • Guiding scientists in designing experiments for modeling purposes.
  • Working with R&D IT and software developers to build data connections and deploy customer facing applications.
  • Monitoring and exploring new developments, analytical tools, methodologies or approaches.
  • Engaging with high-priority digital transformation projects to understand opportunities to accelerate the impact of data science for predictive field trialing.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic foundation in data science (with focus on machine learning) and predictive modelling to postgraduate level or natural science PhD (ecology, env. science, biology or chemistry).
  • Knowledge of relevant data-science, analytics and modelling tooling (Python, Matlab etc.), model validation, uncertainty, sensitivity analysis etc.
  • Scientific domain knowledge in relevant field such as biology, chemistry, environmental science etc.
  • Experience in developing machine-learning models relevant to biological or crop protection outcomes.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and extracting data insights, while communicating scientific and data concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Adaptability to different business challenges and data types / sources and to learn and utilize a range of different analytical tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to visualize and story-telling with data to communicate results to parties with varying levels of technical proficiency.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety and technical support of our product range.

Additional locations in Europe within a time zone that is within a two-hour range of CET (Central European Time) and within commutable distance to a Syngenta office can be also considered.
