Responsibilities
In support of the Operational, Planning, Implementation, and Assessment Services (OPIAS) contract, Peraton is seeking a Data Scientist/Data Analyst. This individual will be experienced in working with a diverse team of IO / MISO planners, social scientists, data engineers, intelligence analysts, and cultural advisors to translate empirical research findings into United States Government operational assessments and associated briefings on topics pertaining to the Middle East.
Position Summary:
As our Data Scientist you will be responsible for supporting analysis and assessment activities, to include the visualization and briefing of data (e.g., developing histograms, trend graphs, etc.), and overseeing technical inputs for the construction and application of analytic dashboards (potentially with the assistance of Peraton Labs). You will also be responsible for integrating requirements from the customer for cross-domain data solutions with the Peraton technical team. Being comfortable working with military planners to break down and synthesize data in a fashion that best informs plans and operations will greatly enhance your success in this role.

What You’ll Do:
- Conducting analysis of structured and semi-structured data sets, to include opinion research, social media-based big data, and various secondary-source indices.
- Supporting assessment and visualization of activities in the information environment, applying a combination of opinion research data, intelligence, operational reporting, and social media insights.
- Briefing senior military leadership on commissioned research findings (e.g., trends) and online data analysis.
- Providing data visualization and quantitative analysis; managing and optimizing existing databases and associated dashboard(s); and reviewing / incorporating primary source quantitative and qualitative research.
- Leveraging online analytic tools kits for social media-related scrapes.

Qualifications
Required:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) OR problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.) and a minimum of 8 years’ experience; minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; minimum of 3 years with PhD
- Demonstrated experience applying social media-oriented data analytic tool kits towards the evaluations of problem sets in the information environment.
- Familiarity with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is essential.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python and R.
- Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Experience with cloud-based data integration.
- Experience with building briefs summarizing data and research findings in MS PowerPoint.
- Current U.S. passport.
- Current DoD TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Graduate degree (MS, PhD, etc.) linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) or problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in briefing senior military leadership (O-5 and above).
- Experience with libraries such as Pandas and NumPy for data manipulation and SciPy for scientific computing.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch might be beneficial depending on further responsibilities.
- Familiarity with version control and DevOp tools such as Git.
- Demonstrated experience applying data analytic tools towards addressing national security issues.
- Familiarity with containerization (using Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) to support cross-domain and scalable solutions.
- Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands.
- Prior experience working Middle East-based problem sets.
- Experience with campaign / operational assessments.
- OSINT experience for interpreting the relevance of online trends, themes, narratives, and adversary behaviors in the information environment.
- Experience utilizing C2IE (Command and Control of the Information Environment) to record assessment-related data on operations in the information environment (OIE).
- Statistical package expertise in IBM SPSS/PASW, R, STATA or MS Excel statistics.

Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
