Data Scientist (F/H/X)

Alstom announces an opening for a Data Scientist in Saint Ouen sur Seine. This position supports Alstom Data Science and AI programs by developing, testing, validating and industrializing data-driven solutions in the mobility domain. The primary goal of these programs is to develop AI/ML software modules to improve customer performance and experience using existing and new data analytics, supported by advanced simulations and domain expertise. The main purpose of this position is to extract key insights from mobility data using a variety of tools and techniques, including machine learning, statistical modeling and data visualization, in order to contribute to the development of zero-to-hero analytics applications (“proof of concept” to “free-for-tender”) in maintenance, operations, energy, and city flow domains. In this capacity, you will be able to work on our next generation data-driven solutions for the mobility industry, within a lean startup environment, in collaboration with engineering and mobility experts, data engineers, DevOps/MLOps engineers, and HMI designers/storytellers.

Key accountabilities:

Define, develop, manage & sustain the data model to meet project/customer needs, by supporting data science activities to:

  • Design and develop data-driven solutions including integration of engineering aspects and evaluation of financial impacts

  • Implement feature selection/extraction methods to improve ML models, derive interpretable insights and solve complex problems

  • Build machine learning models, including unsupervised models and simulation tools to support business needs

  • Assess and enhance the quality of incoming data as well as of model output, after selecting appropriate evaluation metrics

  • Collaborate with domain experts to understand business requirements and define the best approach to meet customer needs

  • Build reports and explanatory materials to share with engineering experts

  • Evaluate the opportunities from new mathematical approaches and data science technologies

  • Apply a strong testing and quality assurance practices

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Degree in computer science or engineering supplemented by extensive training in data science/ML or related discipline

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in the fields of computer science, statistics, machine learning or applied mathematics

Experience

Mandatory:

  • Excellent knowledge of Python programming

  • Knowledge of fundamentals of modern statistics, including time-series and signal processing, text mining or image processing

  • Experience with Python data science stack (pandas, scikit-learn, Keras, NumPy, TensorFlow)

  • Strong knowledge of artificial intelligence & machine learning algorithms (e.g. classification, regression, dimensionality reduction, neural networks, deep learning etc…)

  • Experience in building supervised and unsupervised ML models and in optimizing model (hyper-)parameters tuning for performance and costs

  • Experience with database management (SQL, ElasticSearch, etc.)

  • Experience with LINUX environment (shell scripting)

Desirable:

  • Experience with PHM or predictive maintenance

  • Experience in traffic modelling

  • Experience in NLP

  • Experience in video analytics

  • Experience in sequence mining

  • Experience in log analytics

  • Experience with Git and release management

Competencies & Skills

  • Proven track record in high-quality data science-oriented solutions, including implementation of testing strategies and debugging

  • You are truly passionate about data science, ready to take new challenges, you are proactive and possess strong organizational and planning skills, along with excellent communication and presentation capabilities

  • Flexibility to work successfully with both local and remote / international teams

  • Fluent English
