Within this context, you will be working for the laboratory Long Product Research Centre located in Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) which main research areas are : help plants to improve their key technical parameters and to meet customer requirements at the lowest possible cost, support industrialisation of new products (process) ; create competitive differentiation through enhanced or unique functionality, superior quality of our products, while ensuring their manufacturability and delivery to our customers at the lowest possible cost (products), help our customers to make the best possible use of our advanced product range, showcase practical examples of the most advanced products and present a complete solution to the market with higher added value (applications and steel solutions).
The main missions of the laboratory are : contribute to a low cost and sustainable production of structural long products, help to develop the steel market in construction (fire engineering, earthquake resistance, corrosion protection…), implement the developments with the internal clients in the plants or markets, internal and external benchmarking is an important related mission.
Your role
We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist Engineer with following missions :
- Lead ambitious projects and translate part of the considerable amount of data in Structural Long Product production and Process, as well as clients requirements, into meaningful and valuable information to optimize product quality and cost by developing data science solutions for various stakeholders.
- Support ongoing R&D projects in digital twin technology, defectology data analysis, and applied machine learning for process and applications, including sheet piling structural design.
- Collect and organize diverse data types, ensure data quality for AI pre-training, and maintain communication with providers to deploy developed solutions.
- Contribute to decarbonization targets and sustainability by developing new technologies and integrating AI models into expert systems for process control.
There will also be occasional travels to production facilities and technical coordinations with other ArcelorMittal global R&D centers.
Your profile
- You hold a Master's degree or PhD degree in Data Science, Engineering or Equivalent technical field.
- Some experience working with industrial or manufacturing data would be an asset.
- Experience in Metallurgy or Steel Manufacturing would be extremely beneficial.
- You have advanced levels of English and French.
Minimum Requirements
- Strong skills in Statistics and Machine Learning
- Sufficient programming proficiency, including mastery of programming languages such as Python, and familiarity with major AI frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras
- Skills in dashboarding, visualization and technical reporting
- Knowledge of different Database technologies (SQL, Oracle, MongoBD, ...)
- Data management knowledge, including data manipulation, data pre-processing, and augmentation. This involves working with internal or external collaborators for cleaning, labeling, and augmenting data to train and improve AI models
- Intuition and the ability to identify relevant data for different use cases
- Collaboration and communication for articulating technical details and project needs to technical and non-technical team members
- Strong interpersonal skills along with excellent oral, written, and presentation abilities
- Ready to accept responsibility and willing to excel in your work
- Ability to lead and manage several projects independently and deliver high quality results on deadlines
- Teamwork and customer minded approach is important
Desired Requirements
- Hands-on experience with building data science and ML solutions using open-source models
- Understanding of industrial systems and complex processes
- Knowledge in Signal and Image processing
- Knowledge of Microsoft technologies and Azure Cloud tools (DataBricks, Azure ML, Azure DevOps)
