Schibsted Media is at a pivotal point in our strategy. After splitting the company in two parts - Marketplaces (now Vend) and Media - we are embarking with a new way of working, developing top of the line Media products that more than 6M people love every day.

Data is at the heart of building products people love - and we are also changing how we work with data. We are building a modern content recommendation that supports smarter personalization, user engagement, and monetization across our media brands.

We are now looking for a Data Scientist to join our Curate team in Stockholm or Oslo.

Join us to Shape the Future of Journalism with Data

Curate is where editorial integrity meets cutting-edge technology—empowering editors with powerful tools, and guiding millions of readers to the journalism that matters most.

As a Data Scientist on Curate, you will help build the intelligence behind how we recommend and present content on some of the largest media sites in the Nordics. Our mission is to ensure that our readers discover meaningful, diverse, and trustworthy journalism—whether they’re on the front page, their feed, or newsletters.

You’ll join a tight-knit and deeply collaborative team of engineers, designers, product minds and fellow data experts. Together, we design and evolve recommendation systems and editorial tools that are core to how Schibsted’s media brands engage their audiences. We believe in human-in-the-loop personalization, where editors steer strategy and machine learning fills in the detail.

Expect to work with rich real-world data, thoughtful algorithms, and smart, mission-driven colleagues. Your insights and models will directly shape the information diet of millions, elevate public discourse, and support the sustainability of quality journalism

You will:

  • Develop and implement machine learning models that enhance our news and entertainment products
  • Monitor model performance and share results with stakeholders
  • Own the model development lifecycle from ideation and prototyping to building and long-term maintenance
  • Collaborate with editorial and technical teams to identify opportunities for data-driven innovation and automation in content distribution
  • Contribute to understanding and analyzing reader behavior and trends to improve user experience and increase user engagement
  • Ensure ethical and responsible use of data and AI technology in line with our societal mission, editorial responsibility, and privacy considerations
  • Stay updated on new technologies and trends in data science and AI, and share knowledge within the organization to support continuous improvement and innovation

Who you are:

You enjoy working with data, building machine learning models that drive real-world impact—whether it’s automating parts of the newsroom workflow or personalizing the content experience for millions of users. To you, data isn’t just information—it’s the foundation for intelligent systems that help editorial teams work smarter and deliver more relevant content to readers.

You're curious and collaborative by nature, eager to dive into the complexities of editorial processes and explore them alongside engineers, journalists, and product managers. You seek to understand users, learn from data, and continuously improve content tools through scalable, responsible ML solutions.

  • A central role in a forward-thinking media company with ambitions to be the most innovative in the industry
  • The opportunity to shape the future of news media and contribute to society through technology and data science
  • Become part of an engaged and interdisciplinary team that works closely every day with experts in journalism, technology, and business development
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility of remote work when needed

What we are looking for:

  • You are a problem solver who sees opportunities where others see challenges
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Solid skills in programming languages such as Python, R or similar, along with experience, from the industry or academia, using relevant libraries and frameworks for machine learning such as PyTorch, XGBoost and Scikit-learn
  • Understanding and interest in AI ethics, bias, and related areas
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and insights to non-technical individuals and decision-makers
  • Bonus points: Experience working with recommender systems
