ROLE PURPOSE

As a Data Scientist at Space42, you will work with cross-functional teams to research and develop solutions that use machine learning to solve real-world problems across various domains. You will support both the research and development functions of the team to help design and implement a cutting-edge AI platform that can be applied to large volumes of data. Reporting to the Engineering and AI Manager, you will be involved in and/or responsible for all phases of machine learning solution development, such as data collection and cleaning, as well as model training, validation, optimization and integration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy AI/ML models to solve complex problems in defense and space technology, such as satellite imagery analysis, threat detection, and autonomous systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into geospatial, mobility, and satellite communication systems.
• Design and implement robust data pipelines for processing large-scale datasets from space and defense applications.
• Conduct research on emerging AI trends and technologies to ensure the company remains at the forefront of innovation.
• Ensure AI models comply with ethical guidelines, security protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Optimize AI algorithms for real-time performance in resource-constrained environments.
• Clean and organize data to build secure, scalable, and impactful machine learning models.
• Design experiments and write code for model training and evaluation.
• Quantitatively evaluate trained models for speed and accuracy considerations.
• Optimize trained models for speed and accuracy to meet product/feature objectives.
• Help integrate models into customer products, writing and maintaining highly efficient code. Own the end-to-end process of developing DL/ML features and various related projects.
• Develop algorithms in key areas in Machine Learning.
• Create prototypes / POCs focused on Deep Learning.
• Proactively develop value-driven AI features that are innovative and practical for customers.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of deployed AI systems, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with strategic goals.

Qualifications

• BSc in a STEM related discipline.

• Ph.D. with a focus on CV (or EO) and ML with 1+ years of experience in software development or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience in developing CV (or EO) and ML solutions

• Certification in AI/ML (e.g., TensorFlow Developer, AWS Machine Learning Specialty)

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.

• Strong understanding of statistical learning techniques (Classification, Regression, Clustering).

• Hands-on experience with libraries such as Scikit-learn, OpenCV, Pillow, Rasterio.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with complex, unstructured datasets.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented mindset, with a focus on accuracy and data integrity
• Familiarity with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark) and databases.
• Knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
