Major Tasks and Responsibilities

• Identify and develop data science use cases that bring business value to Covestro

• Responsible for the implementation of data science use cases in various areas such as production, sales/marketing and finance. This requires close collaboration with colleagues from the business units and from Machine Learning Engineering

• Play a crucial role throughout the entire lifecycle of data science products, including exploratory data analysis, development and implementation of prototypes, minimum viable products (MVP) and minimum marketable products (MMP), as well as in supporting the products in the operational phase

• Responsible for selecting and optimizing suitable methods for use cases from the fields of statistical modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence

• Actively contribute to defining requirements for the data processing architecture and technology in close cooperation with the Machine Learning Engineers,

• Select and evaluate proposals from external solution providers and consulting companies in terms of their effectiveness and usefulness

Qualifications

• A university degree (preferably Master's or PhD) in mathematics, physics, statistics, data science or a related field

• At least 3 years of experience in data science in an international environment and with virtual teams (more than 5 years of experience is highly preferred)

• Fluent in R or Python and have experience with machine learning frameworks such as tidymodels, mlr3, sklearn, H2O and TensorFlow You are familiar with random forests, deep learning, LLMs, timeseries forecasts and Bayesian modeling

• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably with AWS

• Working experience in chemical or manufacturing industry is preferred

• The ability to present to colleagues from different departments and hierarchical levels, to explain issues simply and to convince colleagues is important

• Can adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced working environment

• Fluent in written and spoken English and willing to travel internationally
