Build the future of data. Join the Snowflake team.

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to come aboard and join our Data Science team in Finance. Our team develops, operationalizes, and maintains the ML-based forecasting models for some of Snowflake’s core financial metrics. Our work product informs many facets of corporate planning and is heavily used by teams inside and outside of Finance, as well as by executive management, the board, and in external reporting to our investors.  Our team also works closely with Product to assess the financial impacts of new product features, with Sales to understand and predict customer behavior, and develops and applies anomaly detection algorithms to cost and revenue data.

This role will be focused on refining our approaches to long range revenue and bookings forecasting as well as delivering our long range forecasts to our stakeholders.  Additionally, you will work closely with our partners in Corporate Finance and Finance Business Intelligence on developing our in-house long range forecasting application. This application will play a key role in Snowflake’s long range planning efforts and will be an important surface for the finance leadership to interact with the forecast. You will provide modeling, analytics, data app development, and data pipelining support as well as work closely with other finance data scientists to align long range forecasting efforts with our nearer term projections.

AS A DATA SCIENTIST AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL :

  • Work with time-series datasets using a variety of statistical and ML based techniques to refine and extend the long-range forecasting models and algorithms we use for some of our key financial metrics
  • Team up with the Finance BI team to develop a comprehensive interactive long range forecasting tool in Python (utilizing the Streamlit in Snowflake framework)
  • Quantify the uncertainty inherent in revenue and cost metrics in our long range forecasts and enable our application to run scenarios / simulations of effects under different conditions
  • Provide insights and perform ad hoc analytics to answer stakeholder questions on our revenue and bookings forecasts
  • Think creatively to find optimal solutions to our complex, typically unstructured problems.

OUR PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE :

  • 2+ years of experience as a data scientist in a technology company, especially on a finance data science team
  • Advanced SQL skills, including experience building complex data pipelines and using SQL to perform analysis
  • 3-5+ years of experience with Python in a professional setting
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Engineering, or CS)
  • Experience with financial forecasting and modeling
  • Hands-on experience with MPP databases, such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Vertica, etc.
  • Ability to clearly present learnings to business and technical stakeholders.
  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment. That means being flexible and willing to jump in and do whatever it takes to be successful.
  • An obsession for detail and quality
