The Medicines Innovation Hub (MIH) strives to discover, develop, and deliver creative medicines to patients through the development and commercialization of insulins, small molecules, monoclonal antibodies, novel therapeutic proteins, peptides, oligonucleotide therapies and gene therapy systems. The Lilly Capability Centre India (LCCI) located in Bengaluru India is a strategic investment made by Lilly to attract top talent from the vibrant academic and professional environment in India and deploy them to develop and enable critical capabilities for Lilly. The LCCI group in India houses a MIH team that works closely with the MIH team in Indianapolis in enabling the delivery of Lilly’s portfolio.

Job Description

The data scientist will be responsible for transforming data and information captured within legacy systems into value-added insights and actionable business decisions. Candidates must demonstrate a history of strong technical depth, a broad base of modeling and information technology skills, scientific leadership, and a willingness to promote a collaborative, team-based approach to problem solving. Specifically, the candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Identify opportunities where data science can enhance and accelerate decision-making, create, and execute the plan to answer the business question.
  • Experience in working with different data types and source systems as well as interfacing databases to enable extracting relevant data to address business questions.
  • Experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to be able to use the right tool for the right question.
  • Ability to communicate the results of analysis in an effective manner to stakeholders to drive action

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with partners across PR&D to identify decisions that can be informed by data science approaches. 
  • Apply the right data science tool/methodology to inform and influence decisions.
  • Build decision support tools, templates, dashboards for high frequency decisions that can leverage analytics.
  • Develop tools/algorithms to mine patterns in existing data to create a recommendation on future questions to consider.
  • Integrate data science capabilities with knowledge management

Educational Requirements: 

PhD with 0-5 years experience or B.S/M.S. in a quantitative discipline (such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations

Research,) with 2-10 years industry experience in data science

Experience Requirements: 

  • Experience in working with varied data types (structured and unstructured) and databases
  • Experience in programming in scripting languages including R and Python with exposure to other platforms as a plus (i.e., Perl)
  • Experience in using existing statistics/machine learning tools and ability to implement custom algorithms as needed.
  • Experience in natural language processing tasks/algorithms.
  • Experience with visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Spotfire)
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills to collaborate with technology implementation partners and drive to solutions with an Agile mindset

Additional Information:

  • Familiarity with big data technologies (Azure/AWS) is preferred.
  • Web development skills (html, javascript, web frameworks) are not formally required but a working knowledge may be useful to the position
  • CMC development knowledge desired but not required.
  • Successful interaction with senior engineering and scientific personnel
  • Limited international travel (2 – 4%) will be required.
  • Work hours flexibility to accommodate collaboration across multiple time zones
