Job Description:

As a Data Science and AI Developer with Pitney Bowes, you will be key in advancing our Shipping 360 APIs. Your contributions as a SendTech Innovative Solutions team member will advance Pitney Bowes AI-powered shipping solutions integrated with platforms like Microsoft Teams, Edge Plugins, Azure services, and others. Alongside our development team, you will work on cutting-edge technologies to create intelligent shipping workflows, including LLM/NLP-based intent detection, rate shopping, label printing, and carrier management systems.

The wage range for this position is $115000 to $135000 / annually, with the actual pay dependent on your skills and experience as they relate to the job requirements and the location where you will be performing the job. 

This position will be located in our Shelton, CT office. You will be working a hybrid schedule with up to 4 days in the office.

You are:

A Data Science and AI Developer who is an agile practitioner, you are passionate about learning, improving, and iterating on industry-disrupting solutions.

You will:

  • Build and optimize Natural Language Processing (NLP) and LLM models using frameworks like spaCy or other NLP/LLM libraries to process user intents and extract key shipping data (e.g., address, dimensions, weight)
  • Integrate AI models into the Shipping application for real-time processing of user queries
  • Develop and maintain FastAPI-based or similar microservices to handle shipping workflows like rate shopping, label printing, and carrier selection
  • Implement scalable APIs to interface with PB’s Shipping 360 APIs for carrier and shipment management
  • Work with Azure pr similar Vector DB to store and retrieve shipping rate data efficiently using vector search techniques
  • Optimize database queries for performance and accuracy in rate shopping operations
  • Implement and integrate Azure OpenAI services for intelligent response generation, including rate comparisons, shipping details, and troubleshooting
  • Deploy and maintain cloud-based infrastructure using Azure Kubernetes Service (K8S) or Serverless platforms
  • Write unit tests and conduct performance testing to ensure system reliability and scalability
  • Continuously monitor and fine-tune AI models and microservices for optimal performance
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of features into user-facing platforms like Microsoft Teams and Edge plugins
  • Provide technical insights and support during the design and development phases

You have:

  • High level of proficiency in Python and Golang, with hands-on experience in FastAPI or other web frameworks
  • Experience with LLM and NLP libraries (preferred: spaCy, Transformers, or NLTK)
  • Knowledge of vector search algorithms, including a strong working knowledge of Azure Vector DB or FAISS
  • Experience with RESTful API design and integration
  • Familiarity with Azure services, including OpenAI, Event Grid, and Azure Kubernetes Service (K8S)
  • A strong understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-based deployments
  • Database experience (e.g., MongoDB, NoSQL, or vector-based databases)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • The ability to work in an agile environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of shipping APIs and logistics workflows
  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with integration platforms like Microsoft Teams and Edge plugins

Educational Qualifications:

  • Equivalent work experience in AI, backend development, or shipping-related projects is also acceptable
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
