Purpose of role

  • Lead team that develops predictive models to support growth of personal and commercial lines insurance products.
  • Ensure timely deliverables as well as alignment with industry regulations.
  • Provide stakeholders with deep insights that help to drive business decisions.

Purpose of team

The Insurance Analytics team produces models, analyses and other data science solutions for use in the U.S. insurance market.  We additionally provide timely and valuable insights to our clients as well as stay engaged and up to date in the regulatory insurance environment. 

  • Executes and manages project plans for timely project completion.
  • Manages a team of data scientists directly and collaborates with other teams through project leadership.
  • Behaves as mentor to junior team members, providing technical advice.
  • Collaborates with business partners to develop technical /business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools.
  • Able to work at all stages of the analytic pipeline from reception and data preprocessing to final deliverables.
  • Utilizes statistical and machine learning techniques to create high-performing models that comply with regulatory and privacy requirements and address business objectives and client needs.
  • Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and complex business problems utilizing advanced statistical, mathematical and machine learning techniques.
  • Tests new statistical analysis methods, software and data sources for continual improvement of quantitative solutions.
  • Creates clear and easy to understand documents for internal clients.
  • Creates technical support documentation and reports.
  • Presents analysis ideas, progress reports and results to internal managers, project owners, and executives.
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, economics, operations research, computer science or aligned discipline.
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Strong logical, evidence-based problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Skilled with feature engineering, feature selection and methodologies evaluation.
  • Knowledge in and applied experience with statistical and machine learning.
  • Proven experience using statistical and machine learning computer languages (e.g. Python).
  • Ability to balance leading cross-functional projects with individual contributions.
  • Team-focused evidence of building strong partnerships and support of project team members.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills (technical and non-technical).

Preferred

  • Experience managing large and complex datasets.
  • Experience in insurance industry.
  • Experience in cloud-based solutions (e.g. AWS).
