Data Science Programmer – NCCT CTMC Informatics

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY
The National Center for Clinical Trials (NCCT) is designed to serve as an innovative platform to revolutionize and catalyze the conduct of clinical trials−greatly accelerating the translation of scientific findings into improvements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease for our communities and patients. The NCCT will offer core services for patient recruitment and enrollment, trial administration and follow-up, and to gather real world data and evidence.
The Clinical Trial Methods Center (CTMC) has been established within the Wake Forest University School of Medicine to provide the necessary tools and expertise that the NCCT will access and apply to deliver many of its core services.
This position will be part of a team that provides informatics expertise including data management, modeling, analysis, and visualization; and will report to the Informatics Data Science leader who oversees the team of analytics skill experts in the CTMC. This position will also work with Investigators, Evaluation staff, Industry Sponsors, and NCCT Leadership to turn data into information via analytics, machine learning, and visualization techniques. Data analysis provides insight in support of clinical trial startup, from site and study feasibility, through patient recruitment and data collection, to follow-up outcomes and process assessment.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field with 3 years of experience working on full-cycle data analytics and visualization projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Attend project and departmental meetings and contribute to the project design concerning data management needs
Collaborate with faculty, team leads, and stakeholders to anticipate, define, and satisfy data needs
Utilize visualization tools such as PowerBI to design and implement interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support various NCCT initiatives
Develop data preprocessing pipelines to ensure high-quality input for models and algorithms
Conduct comprehensive data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency
Document code, methodologies, and results for effective knowledge sharing
Develop and maintain data visualization best practices and standards to ensure consistency and quality across all reporting
Conduct regular evaluations of existing visualizations to ensure continued accuracy and identify areas for improvement
Performs other related duties as needed
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Strong experience with visualization tools such as PowerBI, Python, or R Shiny
Working knowledge of research methods and statistical techniques, and how to apply them accurately and appropriately
Familiarity and experience with Agile or a similar project management methodology
Superior oral and written communication skills to translate complex data into consumable visualizations and into presentable digestible explanations
Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle and SQL Server databases
Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
Experience in continuous quality improvement methodologies and practices a plus
Familiarity with medical data, standards, and terminology a plus
Familiarity with the clinical trial lifecycle a plus
Experience working in a cloud environment a plus, specifically Azure and Snowflake data stack
