Your Role:
Project Overview & Deliverables:The following describes in further details of the tasks planned for each projects: 1) Hands on lab work using a Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) machine to test a full range of mineral filled and unfilled polymeric materials for storage modulus, loss modulus and loss factor. Analysis of test results with the objective of correlating materials performance with their composition and concluding on the effect of different components on the performance. 2) Utilizing an existing data base of polymer properties, compositions, processing and converting to input them in an AI software utilized by Imerys S&T, along with properly defining and designing the information as needed for the training of the AI software. While the two projects are independent, they could also be considered complementary and inter-related. Data from the first project could feed into the AI project. Data analysis technique and polymer composition, structure, property relationship learned from the first project could also be instrumental in properly designing the data source and the training requirements of the AI software utilized in the second project. The deliverable will be bullet point research report and/or slide deck to describe the approach and methodology/procedure, present the results, and highlight the most significant findings and/or conclusions for each project.
Project Learning Objectives: This would be an amazing opportunity for a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student to work with an advanced test equipment and gain hands on experience with both DMA analysis and data design/preparation for an AI software, a highly in-demand skill of the future.
Ideal Candidates Are:
    •     Pursuing a degree in: Relevant field, e.g., Polymer, Chemical, Material or 
Mechanical Engineering, Material, Polymer, or Data Science
Experience with AI, data analysis and polymer properties and testing is strongly 
desired.
    •    Strong oral and written communication skills.
    •    Problem Solvers: Enjoy collaborating to tackle challenges.
    •    Leaders: Demonstrate leadership in various settings, such as school clubs, sports teams, or work projects.
    •    Authorized to Work in the U.S.
    •    Able to pass a drug screen and background check.
