The development of new technology and big data offers great opportunities for an R&D organization to upscale in both what and how we deliver innovative life-saving therapeutics for patients in need, bringing convergence of clinical science, data and technology. Data Science is becoming an integral part of R&D and engages as collaborators through all R&D stages. This enables the development of a project-specific data strategy, deployment of resources required for the more data-intensive phases of the program, and applications of the most effective computational methods to address the key project questions. The wealth of new data and improved analytical techniques will enhance future innovation and feed the drug development pipeline.

In this role, he/she will serve as operational expert to involve negotiating and managing contracts with external vendors to ensure data science projects compliance with legal and regulatory standards, while also working with data science project leads to develop project plans, coordinate resources, and delivere projects on time and within budget. He/She will collaborate closely with project leads and cross-functional teams to align project objectives with organizational goals, identify and mitigate risks, and track performance to ensure successful outcomes. He/She will be serving as the primary liaison with cross functional teams (HGR, Procurement, etc.) to have effective communication to provide updates and insights, drive innovation and success in our data science efforts.

Typical Accountabilities

Major responsibilities

• Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations with vendors and collaborators to establish terms and conditions that support data science activities
• Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external partners and service providers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations
• Data Science projects portfolio management: Develop and manage status, budgets, spending for data science projects, ensuring proper allocation and tracking of resources
• Compliance Assurance: Ensure all contracts align with legal, regulatory, and company-specific compliance requirements for data handling and privacy

• Project Planning: Collaborate with project lead to develop detailed project plans, outlining timelines, scope, objectives, and milestones for research collaboration projects
• Resource Coordination: Assist the project lead in determining and securing necessary resources, including staffing, technology, and budget
• Conflict Resolution: Collaborate with the project lead to identify and resolve conflicts or bottlenecks affecting project progress.
• Risk Management: Assist the project lead Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them proactively.
• Performance Monitoring: Track project progress against milestones and key performance indicators, adjusting plans as necessary to meet objectives.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed project reports, meeting minutes, documentation for stakeholders and project team, ensuring transparency and accountability.

• Liaison Role: Act as a bridge between data science teams, and other supporting functions (HGR, Legal, Procurement, etc.) to facilitate alignment to ensure the smooth Data Science projects initiation and execution
• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage stakeholders (Data Scientist) regularly to understand needs, gather feedback, and incorporate it into project planning and execution.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Advanced degree in science related majors
• Track records as an operational leader or project manager role in translational research, clinical development or related areas
• Experienced in China R&D environment
• Excellent learning agility
• Effective problem and conflict resolution skills and proven team focus
• Able to adapt and manage ambiguity
• Excellent communication skills; Strong networking/consulting skills with good internal/external SMEs
• Strong organizational, time-management and prioritization skills necessary to evaluate, plan and accomplish multiple work goals in a timely fashion
• Strategic thinking is strong plus
