Group Audit and Assurance (GA&A) is the internal audit function for the Group that provides independent and objective assurance of the effectiveness of the Groups risk management, controls and governance processes. GA&A is increasingly embedding digital assurance into audit activities, injecting Artificial Intelligence (AI) into routine control testing and using digital tools to improve the overall experience for employees. With global-best digital tools that harness the power of data, analytics and AI, GA&A are delivering smarter, faster and safer outcomes to address current and emerging risks and provide better assurance outcomes for our customers and community. 

Do work that matters 

Reporting to the General Manager, Strategy and Transformation and as a Chapter Lead in Automated Assurance, you'll guide a team of data scientists working on Assurance solutions. You'll help your team members grow their skills, oversee the creation of AI prototypes and work with other areas of the bank to fit these new technologies into existing systems. We're looking for someone who can explain complex ideas clearly, enjoys solving tough problems and can motivate a team to do their best work. If you're excited about using AI to make a real difference in our products and want to help others learn and grow, we'd love to have you lead our team.   

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll:

  • Lead, mentor and guide data scientists in the team to deliver projects and outcomes for the business
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities to drive value with AI solution. Collaborate with for cross-functional teams to drive the development and integration of best-in-class AI solutions  
  • Work with technical experts to lead their teams and work towards the best solutions for the development of AI
  • Be confident in defining and owing capability uplift roadmaps to drive excellence and innovation across data science and decision science and across the group
  • Manage multiple initiatives concurrently to completion
  • Present solutions to senior business and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends in data analytics, data science and technology and share findings with team.
  • Establish data governance standards and processes, and ensuring that data is accurate and reliable
  • Be customer obsessed, with a keen eye to understand the why and the what that impacts customers, and who are excited by the prospect of what exceptional customer service can mean and look like in a leading Australian bank. 

We want to hear from you if you have: 

  • A strong background in data science and AI, with a willingness to learn and jump into the deep end of technical problems and dive into code
  • Experience in financial services industry in a risk/regulatory capacity is preferable. 
  • Demonstrated technical experience developing Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Generative AI (Gen AI) systems 
  • Demonstrated experience leading AI work or teams   
  • Passion for novel research in AI, emerging tech and methodologies      
  • Ability to translate complex AI concepts into practical, real-world solutions   
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering impactful AI projects from concept to implementation 
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical   
  • Adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving field  
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and creative thinking
  • Risk mindset – proactively identifying, understanding, discussing, and acting on current and future risks 

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks, which means our people managers are technology leaders that will lead, manage, empower and inspire a diverse group of data scientists with various strengths and broad range of skillsets.  

We do not expect you to have managed teams working with all of these, but having experience and exposure with leading teams that specialise in some of these (or equivalents) is encouraged.   

  • Team management and direct people management    
  • Experience in conducting research  
  • Technical experience in Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Gen AI  
  • Python, Gen AI frameworks & tools
