Role Overview:

The Design Lead role is responsible for leading and architecting the end-to-end human-centered design process in every project, incorporating strategies to address behavioral challenges. As strategists, they understand the problem statement, carve out scope for human interaction (in conjunction with technology), and facilitate out-of-the-box thinking with their team to promote thought leadership in the Tech space. This role also involves close collaboration with counterparts in the Consulting, Data Science, and Engineering teams to ensure complete integration and alignment of work done by all three workstreams in a project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides hands-on mentoring and leadership to User Researchers, Behavioral Science experts, Interaction Designers and Visual Designers through the entire design process from the best research / strategy methods, tools, approaches that are best suited for a client project

  • Build and present Proposal and Point of View (POV) documents for new business

  • Identify key descriptive hypotheses, and approach to research, that will build an understanding of context and actors’ behavior within that context, and speculate on prescriptive hypotheses to test prototypes.

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary problem-solving approach, combining the application of behavioral design within data science and engineering

  • Comfort working in cross functional team, to represent a behavioral design perspective 

  • Lead & collaborate on planning, execution, analysis / synthesis on a variety of research efforts; ranging from quick / tactical to deep / strategic.

  • Moderate customer interviews to identify underlying motivations, values, mental models and emotions

  • Synthesize research findings into concise, actionable insights and visual frameworks that provoke client teams to think differently about the problem / opportunity space

  • Ensure their team are delivering world-class deliverables and outcomes to the internal and external stakeholders.

  • Persuasively communicate findings in reports, presentations and workshops

  • Thought leadership internally within Fractal and in the external communities around the coming together of AI, Engineering and Design (and related topics).

  • Attraction, engagement and retention of talented team of Behavior Architects, Design Researchers & Strategists, Interaction Designers and Visual Designers who can continuously improve and transform the way we apply design to AI in an enterprise world.

  • Shape and refine the culture of the design team; its rituals, practices, personality, values and norms.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a Master's degree in Design, Behavioral Science, Cognitive Science, Behavioral Economics, Applied Social Psychology, or an equivalent field

  • Possesses a minimum of 10 years' industry experience, including managing clients and leading teams, with at least 3-4 years in the direct application of Behavioral Design/Design Research

  • Demonstrates a strong portfolio showcasing their skills as a Behavioral Designer

  • Exhibits real-world experience managing projects, design teams, and stakeholders in various business contexts and project phases

  • Displays a passion for continuous learning and strong writing skills

  • Adapts well to different team structures and is comfortable with ambiguity

  • Enjoys building a Behavior Design capability within an established organization

  • Incorporates data science and design thinking into their applied Behavioral Design practice

  • Maintains a humble and sincere confidence, coupled with the ability to adapt to different business contexts and project phases

  • Possesses experience collecting and analyzing human behavioral data, ideally in a setting where humans interact with AI systems (preferred)

  • Has exposure to working with international clients and geographies (preferred)

  • Brings consulting experience to the role (preferred)

Pay:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.  A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $150,000 - $180,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time.  You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company.  In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms.   The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
