As part of our post-Series C growth, we’re excited to add a Backend Engineer (AI) to our Data and AI engineering team of eight.  As a Backend Engineer (AI) at ThreeFlow, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of engineers and product leaders to revolutionize the insurance industry through innovative AI applications and our proprietary data set. 

This position reports to the Director of Data & AI and is based remotely within the US. Candidates must be available to work EST hours.

About the role:

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend infrastructures that support AI-driven applications across ThreeFlow’s ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, AI engineers, and product managers to design and deploy backend systems that enable AI capabilities to be seamlessly accessed by various product teams.
  • Design and implement internal service layers and APIs to facilitate efficient, reliable AI integration across teams, standardizing access to AI resources and logic.
  • Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, stable deployment cycles for backend applications that leverage AI.
  • Develop solutions to monitor and maintain the performance, reliability, and scalability of AI applications in production, adapting infrastructure as needed to meet evolving demands.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews, contributing to backend best practices that enhance security, performance, and resilience across our systems.

About you:

  • 5+ years of experience in backend or software engineering, including 2+ years focused on cloud-native or scalable architectures.
  • Proven experience managing CI/CD pipelines for complex applications, with a strong foundation in version control, automated testing, and deployment best practices.
  • Extensive Python development experience, with an emphasis on deploying and maintaining backend systems that leverage AI and pre-trained models.
  • Proficiency with AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, S3, and others) and experience deploying cloud solutions through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Familiarity with backend data management (SQL and/or NoSQL databases) and efficient query design.
  • Comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, with a willingness to dive into undefined or evolving areas to help bring clarity and structure to projects.
  • A collaborative team player who communicates effectively with cross-functional teams, from engineers to product managers, adapting language and approach to engage colleagues with varying levels of technical understanding.
  • A proactive problem-solver who thrives on cross-functional collaboration, enjoys architectural challenges, and is passionate about creating scalable backend solutions that support AI-driven automation.
  • Experience handling sensitive data in secure environments, with expertise in encryption, access controls, and secure cloud data transmission. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance is preferred.
