Job Title: Backend EngineerDepartment: TechnologyLocation: Bangalore Reporting To: Head of EngineeringTookitaki is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and build robust backend systems that power our AI-driven financial crime prevention platforms—FinCense and the AFC Ecosystem. As part of the Technology team, you will work closely with data scientists, DevOps, and front-end developers to develop scalable microservices, implement clean architecture patterns, and deliver production-grade solutions to some of the world’s leading banks and fintechs.This is a high-impact role at the heart of Tookitaki’s trust layer, helping us prevent fraud and fight money laundering through collaborative intelligence and federated AI.Position PurposeThe Backend Engineer will contribute to the architecture, development, and deployment of backend services that enable real-time fraud detection and AML compliance. You will be responsible for writing high-quality, test-driven code, improving system performance, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of core components. Your work will directly contribute to product modularity, performance optimization, and the delivery of mission-critical services to Tookitaki’s global financial services clients.Key ResponsibilitiesHigh-Quality Code & TDDWrite clean, maintainable, and test-driven code using Java, Scala, or Python.Embrace unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD best practices to ensure code quality and reliability.Microservices & Architecture DesignDesign and implement RESTful APIs and service-oriented backend architectures that scale horizontally.Participate in system design discussions and make architectural decisions aligned with long-term business needs.Database Development & OptimizationWork with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MariaDB) to model data and write efficient queries.Ensure data consistency, integrity, and performance across services.Cloud-Native EngineeringBuild, deploy, and monitor services on cloud platforms (preferably AWS) using modern DevOps tooling.Leverage cloud services for storage, messaging, scaling, and resilience.Open Source & Internal ToolingExplore and integrate open-source technologies and contribute back when possible.Work with Git, build tools (Maven/SBT/Gradle), Docker, and CI pipelines.Continuous Learning & CollaborationEngage in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring within the team.Stay up to date with emerging technologies and continuously improve your engineering skills.Qualifications and SkillsEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.Experience3–6 years of professional experience as a backend engineer in a product or platform team.Technical SkillsProficiency in at least one core backend language (at least 2 years): Java, Scala, or Python.Experience designing and building microservices architectures.Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL.Hands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud providers.Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD workflows.Exposure to Kafka, Flink, Spark, or Elasticsearch is a plus.Soft SkillsStrong analytical thinking and debugging skills.Collaborative mindset with excellent communication abilities.Proactive and eager to learn, adapt, and contribute to a growing team.Key CompetenciesBackend System Design: Ability to architect and build scalable microservices and APIs.Code Quality & Test-Driven Development: Emphasis on clean, testable code with reliable deployments.Cloud-Native Engineering: Experience working in AWS and cloud-native environments.Open Source Contributor: Familiarity with OSS best practices and motivation to give back.Continuous Learning: Enthusiasm for self-improvement and staying current in the fast-evolving backend landscape.Success MetricsDelivery of high-performance, scalable backend components within deadlines.Zero-critical defects in production from owned modules.Consistent participation in code reviews and team-level design discussions.Improvement in service latency, uptime, and reliability metrics over time.Positive feedback from cross-functional teams on collaboration and problem-solving.BenefitsCompetitive salary and variable compensation.Work with cutting-edge AI and data platforms powering financial crime prevention.Join a globally recognized company, awarded by World Economic Forum, Forbes, and Chartis RiskTech100.Be part of a mission-driven team committed to building a safer, trustworthy financial ecosystem.
