The Position

As a seasoned member of the Clinical Data Analytics & Modelling team, the Associate Director conceptualizes, defines and delivers advanced data and analytics solutions to Novo Nordisk Inc., (NNI) CMR Stakeholders to the benefit of patients, health care providers and other stakeholders. This role primarily interfaces with internal stakeholders from Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Real-World Evidence (RWE), Medical Affairs, Clinical Trials Operations, Market Access, and a few other teams to respond to quick turnaround data analytics requests. The majority of these hands-on requests involve pulling data from Real World Data repositories such as Medical Claims, Electronic Health/Medical Records, Lab results, Census data, CDC Surveys (e.g., NHANES) as well as internal systems of record to conduct a diverse range of analyses, primarily using tools like Snowflake SQL, R, Python, Tableau, others, while delivering the results via a succinct and effective data story. Provides expert-level knowledge patient-level data analytics (including patient finding and patient journey), as well as key data resources and data management capabilities (e.g., Patient master data, IQVIA LAAD, socio-economic and open datasets, and other). Has experience with and knowledge of advanced statistical methods and applies them directly to deliver solutions or eventually provide consultative input on projects managed elsewhere, internally or at vendors.

Growing in this role means contributing to the “productization” of certain analytics solutions that may have broader applicability across different Therapy Areas, as well as acting as a thought partner to stakeholders in building analytics roadmaps for the Therapy Areas.

Relationships

Reports to the Sr. Director within Clinical Data Analytics & Modelling, working across Therapy Areas and has open doors to partner with other data science units within Novo Nordisk US subsidiary as well as globally. Partners with colleagues from other areas of Clinical Data Science and Evidence as well as Commercial Insights & Analytics Team, and may also collaborate with IT as necessary to deliver successful solutions.

Essential Functions

  • Understands internal stakeholder needs and translates those needs into quick turnaround analytics deliverables.
  • Learning agility to understand a new dataset and be able to leverage it for analyses in a relatively short period of time.
  • Interprets and presents data findings to internal stakeholders in a succinct and effective way, highlighting inherit nuances, limitations, and caveats.
  • Works with stakeholders to anticipate future needs in order to factor-in those future demands, into the code that is currently being written, as much as possible.
  • Participates in the development of new standards and/or practices.
  • Collaborates with other team members to ensure overall integration of products and services.
  • Serves as an internal expert on advanced analytics and statistical analysis in support of projects and programs. Maintains knowledge of “best practices” in patient and data analytics, real-world data science, and related topics.
  • Provides guidance and QC oversight to more junior team members, and colleagues in other CDS&E areas in use and delivery of analytics and analytical tools.

Physical Requirements

10-20% overnight travel required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with 12+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or PhD degree with 6+ years of experience is required (pharma industry experience preferred); appropriate education may be substituted for some years of experience.
  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Population Studies, Epidemiology, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative field is preferred
  • Experience delivering patient insights and related models, particularly applying advanced statistical techniques.
  • Analytical and/or technical proficiency at analyzing large data sets to derive insights, as well as with production data pipelines.
  • Creative problem-solving with ability to solve complex unstructured problems; see opportunities through.
  • Innate intellectual curiosity, demonstrated desire to take initiative, and ability to think creatively to solve Outstanding team- and client-facing communication skills.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with at least two of the following datasets is required: IQVIA LAAD, Komodo Claims, Optum Clinformatics (CDM), Truven Marketscan (Merative).
  • Solid hands-on experience with SQL is also required (preferably Snowflake SQL variant).
  • Experience with Census Data, CDC survey data (e.g., NHANES), and other datasets is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive programming experience (R or Python) required.
  • Proven experience translating internal stakeholder needs into fast turnaround analytics deliverables.
  • Experience with interpreting and explaining data insights and trends, communicating findings into a compelling data story.
  • Subject matter familiarity in one or more disease areas of interest to Novo Nordisk is a plus.
  • Skills in information visualization concepts and tools.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and storytelling skills
