Description

We seek an experienced and strategic-minded tenured professor to join our team as the Assistant Dean for Research. The Assistant Dean will also hold a tenured faculty position in the School of Data Science. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Research, the Assistant Dean will work to develop, implement, and oversee research initiatives within the School of Data Science. The Assistant Dean holds a 5-year renewable administrative appointment for these duties.

This position will collaborate closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Research and other school leaders to achieve our unit's goals and objectives while ensuring adherence to university policies and procedures. This position will also hold expectations of teaching, mentoring students, and engaging in research.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage research administration to ensure support of the faculty in the acquisition and execution of their funded research activities.
  • Develop and oversee research programs that recruit and engage undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds in research activities within the School of Data Science.
  • Monitor and evaluate strategies to enhance research productivity and impact.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to support their research endeavors.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist in securing research grants.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and excellence in research within the school.
  • Mentor junior faculty members, post-docs, and graduate students in their research pursuits.
  • Develop policies and procedures that enhance the research productivity of faculty members, post-docs, and graduate students.
  • Represent the school in academic and professional settings related to research.

Qualifications

1. A Ph.D. in a relevant field such as data science, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline.

2. Demonstrated excellence in research with a strong publication record.

3. Experience in securing research funding from external sources.

4. Leadership skills and a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams.

5. Ability to mentor and support junior faculty members and students.

6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
