Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced ten Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

Nokia Bell Labs is exploring radical new ideas to address the challenges that 6G networks will be confronted with, including the demand for extreme connectivity, reliable network, and extremely low latency. In our AI/ML on radio system research labs near Paris, Bell-labs interns will have the opportunity of working side-by-side with industry-leading researchers, who will advise and challenge them. Besides integrating in a small and familiar research department, our interns will have the opportunity to meet the world-leading researchers from different departments, which provides our interns the chance to broaden their research interests. This provides an excellent environment to foster cross-domain thinking and collaborations between department members.

The 6G network will undoubtedly provide significantly faster wireless data transmission and lower latency through advanced technologies. To enhance user experience, the methodology for managing resources must be strategically improved. This internship opportunity aims to investigate state-of-the-art resource management using AI technologies. Supported by simulations and potentially proof-of-concept (PoC) tests, the ultimate objective is to demonstrate and validate the potential applicability of AI techniques in enhancing the transmission speed of wireless systems while meeting Quality of Service (QoS) constraints.

Are you passionate about solving problems?

As part of our team, you will:

  • Investigate state-of-the-art reinforcement learning technologies.
  • Formulate research problems related to resource allocation.
  • Propose innovative solutions to address these problems.
  • Validate the proposed ideas through simulations.
  • Analyse and compare the numerical results with existing state-of-the-art schemes.

This is a unique opportunity to carry out cutting-edge research with one of the world’s leading research institutes in wireless communications. The results of this work may lead to publications in flagship conferences and journals as well as the filing of patents.

Must have:

  • Good background in wireless physical layer theories
  • Strong experience with Python and Matlab programming
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques (e.g., deep learning, reinforcement learning, etc.)

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Good understanding of radio resource management
  • Experience with machine learning implementations (e.g., Tensorflow, Pytorch, Sklearn, etc.)
