AI, ML, and Applied Mathematics Consultant

The Opportunity

We’re looking for skilled engineers to help drive advancements in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) research for the Department of Defense.  Our clients are pursuing revolutionary advancements in applications of AI/ML techniques well beyond the state-of-the-art. The ideal candidate will not only have technical experience in this area, but will also have experience in managing the execution of technical projects and programs.

As part of our team, you'll serve as a strategic technical consultant to program managers at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), helping to oversee the creation and execution of advanced government-funded research and development programs in AI/ML applications. You’ll work with world-class scientists and engineers to identify program goals and metrics that will enable mission success. You will maintain responsibility for producing and presenting findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients on the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs, assisting with the management of current programs, and facilitating the transition of program deliverables to DoD stakeholders. This position will require travel of up to 10% of the time within the U.S., when necessary to accommodate client needs and is based in Arlington, VA.

You Have:

  • Experience with authoring, editing, and proofreading technical papers, presentations, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience with meeting target milestones, timelines, and budgets for projects or programs

  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the time

  • Ability to pay strict attention to detail

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience with developing or analyzing AI/ML algorithms, Master’s degree and 1+ years of experience with developing or analyzing AI/ML algorithms, or Doctorate degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with developing or analyzing other non-generative AI/ML algorithms and applications

  • Experience with prompt engineering

  • Experience with interpretability and human understanding

  • Experience with knowledge management best practices, processes, and tools

  • Experience with performing or supporting government-sponsored research activities

  • Experience with managing programs or projects across various stages of their life cycle

  • Ability to work on tasks quickly, independently, and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
