Objectives:
The “Production AI – Plant & Site Analytics” team provides data products and Artificial Intelligence solutions for BASF's production plants: From data-driven soft sensors up to optimization - close to the chemical process, combining domain expertise in chemical process engineering and material science with in-depth skills utilizing AI, Machine Learning, and graph-based data analysis. Our team develops innovative solutions to derive insights from production data that support better and faster decisions. We implement data-driven solutions in its complete lifecycle for users in Production and Technology.
The focus of the role is on the acquisition of local projects, the systematic requirements engineering for the adaptation or new functionalities in our AI solutions as well as the development and implementation of use cases with our internal business partner.
- As an AI Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of (Generative) AI-based solutions that meet the needs of the users.
- You will continuously improve and optimize our AI solution portfolio to enhance the performance, accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of the solutions.
- You ensure an efficient collaboration with regional and global BASF units in both project execution as well as service and support.
Main Task:
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of web-based AI solutions, ensuring robust functionality and seamless user experience.
- Design and implement scalable and efficient AI infrastructure, including data pipelines, model serving, and monitoring systems.
- Develop computer vision algorithms and systems for tasks such as image recognition, object detection, and image segmentation. Utilize techniques like convolutional neural networks (CNN) and deep learning.
- Develop and implement machine learning models using techniques such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning.
- Collaborate with product managers, solution designers, and other developers to integrate machine learning models into production systems, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability and performance.
- Conduct research and stay updated on the latest advancements in Machine Learning and AI and apply these techniques to solve real-world problems. Contribute to continuous learning within the organization.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Job Requirement:
- Advanced degrees: Master or PhD in engineering, process engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics, or natural sciences.
- Minimum 3 years’ related working experience in software engineering.
- Project management (continuously exchanging with internal business partners, budget, work organization).
- Proficiency in programming languages and familiarity with AI frameworks and libraries.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, with a focus on delivering high-quality results in iterative cycles and with the ability to contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
- Proficient in DevOps practices, including experience with CI/CD tools, e.g., Git and integration with Azure Repos and experience with collaborative coding practices (branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews)
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Strong proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React)
- Proficiency in machine learning algorithms, model evaluation, and optimization techniques, with experience in handling large-scale datasets
- Working knowledge in the development of complex data science software solutions preferably with the Microsoft Azure product portfolio
- Comfortable working in highly complex environment with multiple stakeholders and with strong pressure to deliver on time and on budget.
- A growth mindset with a curiosity to learn and improve.
- Team player with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have:
- Proven track record of successful AI-driven projects, preferably in an industrial setting.
- Experience with other AI technologies, such as natural language processing or reinforcement learning.
- Knowledge of data engineering and preprocessing, including handling large datasets and ensuring data quality.
