Smith Micro develops software to simplify and enhance the mobile experience, providing solutions to leading wireless service providers and cable MSOs around the world. Our solutions enrich today’s connected lifestyles while creating new opportunities to engage consumers via smartphones and consumer IoT devices. This is a hybrid internship position set to begin in late May or June, lasting for 12 weeks. Summer interns will work 30-40 hours per week, with 4 days in the office.As an AI & Data Science Intern, you will enhance your educational experience through practical, on-the-job learning, assignments, and project completion. You will gain exposure to data analysis techniques, machine learning models, and the application of AI and data science in real-world scenarios.
What you will do:
- Evaluate data sets of information to provide business insights.
- Gain exposure to machine learning and LLM foundational models.
- Collaborate with the product team to understand customer needs and devise solutions.
- Gather and analyze information, formulate, and test hypotheses, and develop and communicate recommendations.
- Explore new statistical methodologies as needed for specific analysis.
- Contribute to development efforts through appropriate database use and project design.
- Gain exposure to deploying applications and scaling solutions using AWS (Amazon Web Services)
- Stay updated with the latest technology trends and data science advancements.
Required Education and Experience:
- Located within 20 miles of the office with reliable transportation to work in-office four (4) days weekly.
- Currently enrolled as a 3rd or 4th-year student in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math or related field.
- Initiative, perseverance and seeking experience in AI, data processing, data programming, and data analytics.
- Ability to learn prompt engineering and current methods in data transformation, data modeling, and data architecture skills.
- Ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative thinking and analysis.
- Programming familiarity/coursework in GO or Python.
- An understanding of math skills (linear algebra, Bayesian statistics group theory).
- Strong written and verbal communications.
Desirable Skills and Qualities:
- A collaborative mindset with a passion for learning and contributing to team success.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accuracy in all tasks.
- Familiarity with data science tools and platforms, such as AWS, Bedrock, TensorFlow, is a plus.
- Interest in leveraging AI and machine learning techniques to solve complex business problems.
