The Data Scientist applies machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence system design and validation, performs analysis, and builds high quality prediction systems and data products integrated in Carilion’s operations workflows. Assists in discovering information hidden in vast amounts of healthcare and operations data, to drive smarter decision making. Delivers solutions to business function end-users from design to performance and support.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Preferred experience: benchmarking and/or data visualization tools, healthcare information technology, epic or other EMR reporting tools, AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud architecture, Docker and Kubernetes
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: appropriate Epic certification within the first year of onboarding.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated competency with shell/cli, version control systems, analytical statistical methods, machine learning technologies, programming experience with one or more Data (Python, R, Golang, Rust, or other functional, object-oriented, or interpretive programming language frameworks), experience working with Modern Machine Learning and AI frameworks and associated Architectures/APIs, novice to intermediate API usage familiarity, intermediate to advanced familiarity with all major RDBMS (Oracle, Snowflake preferred). Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Understanding documentation, change control, and maintenance procedures as they apply to reporting and analytic products. Ability to understand and apply specification requirements to reporting and analytic tool development. Detail oriented, strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze, diagnose, suggest and implement process modifications. Strong customer service orientation and ability to follow through issues to resolution. Ability to interact with people from all organizational levels and build consensus through negotiation and diplomacy. Communicate process and insights to varying staff levels within the organization. Ability to be flexible, versatile and adaptable in day to day activities.
