The Opportunity:

This internship is only open to current University of Edinburgh PhD students who will be based in the UK for the duration of the internship. Employ.ed for PhDs is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with university departments and Schools.  It offers exclusive part-time internships at the University all year round.

We are looking for a skilled researcher and writer in the field of applied AI and Data Ethics, to support the University of Edinburgh’s AI and Data Ethics Advisory Board and facilitate the activities of its review subcommittee.

This internship is only open to current University of Edinburgh PhD students who will be based in the UK for the duration of the internship.

Part-time: 5 hours per week, flexible working schedule with exception of monthly AIDE Board meetings (currently Wednesday afternoons, 3-4.30pm).

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Current University of Edinburgh PhD student.
  • Working knowledge of principles and best practices in academic research ethics.
  • Ability to apply reasoning in evaluating research ethics pertaining to AI and data.
  • Research experience in the field of applied AI ethics and/or applied data ethics.
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication skills, adept at engaging with academics and the broader university community
  • Ability to write concise, clear summaries of complex ethical issues pertaining to academic research, synthesizing multiple and diverse perspectives

The University will employ full-time PGR students for no more than an average of 9 hours per week across the academic year (as per its policy), and you must make sure any employment complies with any visa or funding conditions you may have.  
 
Should you be successful, you will require written confirmation from your academic supervisor that you can undertake the internship. We recommend that students discuss the internship with their supervisor, as well as with their employer, before applying.
