The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a national public entity established in April 2005 under the Social Assistance Act of 2004 and the SASSA Act No. 9 of 2004. Operating under the oversight (but not direct control) of the Department of Social Development (DSD), SASSA is responsible for administering and distributing social grants across South Africa.
