Our Guidehouse Energy Providers practice is collaborating with leaders in energy and utility clients to successfully navigate the energy transition.  We work across value chains creating decarbonisation strategies and help drive forward solutions like renewable generation, green gases and hydrogen, demand response/flexibility, smart grids, Carbon Capture and Storage and the related infrastructures.

What You Will Do:

Use existing skills and develop new skills to:

  • Clean and analyse large and complex real-world data sets using advanced analytics to provide insights across a variety of application in the energy sector (electricity, has networks) or inputs to machine learning models.

  • Develop, train and iterate model and systems making use of various forms of machine learning (e.g. Maintain, iterate and scale up developed machine learning models.

  • Perform assessments of existing systems, data quality and data governance to provide recommendations based on best practices.

  • Collaborate with teams across business and support functions (e.g. IT) to effectively develop novel digital solutions.

Additional activities could include:

  • Aid in business development through contributing to the development and/or presentation of ideas for novel digital solutions within the energy sector both internally and externally.

  • Assist with project management activities for a variety of technology-based projects.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics (or other discipline with a large Data Science component)

  • Minimum 1 (ONE) or more years of experience working on Machine Learning Modelling and/or Data Science (including internships and Masters work)

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics (or other discipline with a large Data Science component).  

  • Minimum 2 (TWO) years of experience working on Machine Learning Modelling and/or Data Science (including internships and university projects)

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in programming in Python.

  • Proficient in performing advanced statistical analyses on large data sets including real-world data sets containing inaccuracies, or incomplete noisy or sparse data.

Right to remain and work in the UK e.g. UK Passport, EU Settled Status, Indefinite Leave to Remain.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of deep machine learning algorithms (e.g. CNN, LSTM, RNN, GANS, GNN, Autoencoder, Transformer, Deep Belief Network, etc.)

  • Experience with and proficiency in Python programming and using source code version control technologies (e.g. Git)

  • Working with established machine learning-based model development libraries/packages (e.g. TensorFlow, OpenAI Gym, Numpy, Scipy, Scikit-learn, Theano, Keras, PyTorch, Pandas, Matplotlib, etc.)

  • Experience with projects of varying degrees of complexity with multiple unknowns.  

  • Experience with working in teams to produce high-impact work products, reports, and other deliverables in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to simplify complex topics and tailor key messages to a range of audiences.

  • Heightened attention to detail, and the ability to create and edit technical and non-technical written work products and graphical presentations

  • Experience planning and executing end-to-end technology implementations and documenting associated risks.
