Are you currently studying at a technical university or college and looking for a meaningful summer job? At Mycronic, you get a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a global high-tech company at the forefront of technology.

Mycronic is a global high-tech company whose innovative solutions have been advancing electronics technology for over 40 years. Today we continue to grow and serve customers in an expanding variety of industries. What we do impacts the future of technology, and in turn, the way we live our lives tomorrow.

Background

Today, no other company can compete with Mycronic's mask writers. Our machines are used in the manufacturing of nearly all displays — from TVs and laptops to smartwatches and car infotainment systems — and even in semiconductor production. The process for the manufacturing happens at a nanometer level, smaller than blood cells and viruses. For all of this to be possible, a great emphasis is put on the quality of software and hardware.

Mycronic's photomask equipment consist of many subsystems that produce data, which is then analyzed for many different purposes. For example, the mask writers utilize a multi-axis servo to position the laser beam that performs the actual writing of the masks, and all the motions in the system are logged and analyzed to ensure stable system operation. Another important aspect in the manufacturing of lithographic masks at nanometer-scale precision is the ability to measure and verify in the measured data that the patterns match the expected performance.

Much of this analysis and decision-making is done today with a combination of manual analysis and statistical methods. Machine learning- and deep learning-based analysis offers several potential advantages over more traditional rule-based methods, for example reducing the amount of manual work needed, higher sensitivity for potential issues, or identifying more complex relationships that might be difficult to find with statistical analysis.

Description

The goal of the summer work is to conduct a research project as part of the development of machine learning models for Mycronic's photomask equipment. The project will include experiment design, implementation, running experiments, and analysis of results.

Examples of possible summer job projects:

  • Implement and compare new model architectures and ideas.
  • Explore methods for representation learning, self-supervision, and pre-training, for training with limited labeled data, or for improving model robustness and overall performance.
  • Investigate methods for utilizing machine learning models for dataset labeling, for example active learning or semi-supervised learning.
  • Explore ideas for utilizing generative models in developing photomask equipment.

The specific topics of the summer work projects will be decided at the start of the projects. The topics can also be adapted to the interests and background of individual summer workers.

The duration of the summer work is 8-12 weeks, and the location is primarily at Mycronic’s headquarters in Täby just outside of Stockholm.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, and Python.
  • Higher technical studies at a university or college are a prerequisite and a requirement.
  • Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is meritorious.
