We are looking for a Summer 2025 Intern within the Robotic Operations S/W Enhanced Logic Lab (ROSWELL) Software Engineer – Artificial Intelligence to assist with developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning tool that will use NASA approved AI models to perform image comparisons of Visiting Vehicle overlays test cases to determine plot point deviations.  A web interface will be developed using Flask or a similar framework that will access a PostgreSQL database for structured storage.  The AI tool will be developed and enhanced in Python and will be hosted on a Linux server.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 13 weeks.

The selected candidate will:

  • Asist with developing the web interface for user interaction with the tool.
  • Develop database tables and queries to enhance or retrain AI models.
  • Work within Python to customize AI models.
  • Report to project lead or project manager for technical guidance, support, task assignment, and processes.
  • Prepare status reports as required.
  • Interact with other NASA and JETS teams and departments.
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
 

Here's What You'll Need:

 

Requisition Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited university
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours
  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA
  • ​​Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.
  • Familiarity with Python, PostgreSQL, Linux, HTML and JavaScript.
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or WebEx.

Requisition Preferences:

  • ​College Junior or Senior working towards a BS in Computer Science or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Courses in Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science
  • Interest in NASA or Space flight
  • Experience utilizing Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning either in college coursework or work experience.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance following an established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust the schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
