The Operational Data Strategy function sits within Clinical Data and Insights. This overall group is within R&D Biopharmaceutical Clinical Operations. The Operational Data Strategy function is responsible for the strategic oversight on the collection, organisation, validation, and analysis of operational data, combining advanced database and system capabilities with innovative data science methodologies to visualise data-driven decision making.

The Senior Specialist, Data Scientist will be reporting to Director, Operational Data Intelligence. The ideal candidate will have a passion for data and a strong foundation in statistics, machine learning, and programming. As a Data Scientist, you will work alongside experienced data professionals to analyze complex datasets, develop models, and contribute to data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection and Preprocessing:
    • Gather data from various sources such as databases, APIs, and flat files.
  • Exploratory Data Analysis:
    • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within the dataset.
    • Visualize data to bring effective decision making in a UX/UI friendly way to stakeholders.
    • Utilise expertise in predictive analytics to provide strategic direction for the application of data science methodologies to clinical operational data.
  • Visualisation
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of advanced data analytics and visualization techniques to support data-driven decision making in clinical operations.
  • Model Development and Evaluation:
    • Develop and implement machine learning models for classification, regression, clustering, or other relevant tasks.
    • Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and fine-tune models for optimal results.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, domain experts, and IT professionals, to understand business requirements.
    • Communicate findings and insights to non-technical stakeholders through reports, presentations, or dashboards.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement:
    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and related fields.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices, reusable code, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Essential Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods and their application to data analysis.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and algorithms.
  • Experience in data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI.

Desired Experience & Skills:

  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS
