Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP) / Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in AI for Material Sciences in the Department of Chemistry (Ref.:531786), to commence as soon as possible, on a 1 to 3-year temporary basis for PDF, or on a 1-year temporary or a 2 to 3-year fixed-term basis for RAP, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Materials Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or related disciplines with a strong background in computational methods and machine learning. Experience in materials informatics, high-throughput computational screening, or machine learning for materials property prediction is essential. Candidates with prior experience in developing AI models for accelerated materials discovery, optimization of material properties, or multiscale modeling will be preferred.
The appointee will be expected to (i) develop and implement machine learning algorithms for materials design and discovery; (ii) collaborate with experimental researchers to validate computational predictions; (iii) publish research findings in high-impact journals; (iv) assist in the preparation of research grant applications; (v) contribute to administrative duties as required. Enquiries about the post should be sent to Professor Hongjie Dai at hjdai@hku.hk. Those with relevant post-doctoral work experience or an excellent publication track record may be considered for appointment as RAP.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. For RAP, the appointment on fixed term will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
