Leidos has an opening for a Senior Cybersecurity Data Scientist who will support the delivery of mission enabling Information Technology Service Management/Integration and Cybersecurity for a large environment of critical national security importance. Senior Cybersecurity Data Scientist will support operations for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).  

The successful candidate will provide expertise in data science in a cyber security environment, utilizing a variety of cybersecurity-relevant data sources, data science and machine learning techniques to support the agency’s mission. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive analysis of data based on visualization, pattern matching, and scientific methods including:

    • Perform complex correlations across multiple data sets for the purpose of identifying malicious activity within network and system logs, network traffic, or packet capture.

    • Collect and review vulnerability and exploit information from internal and external threat intelligence sources to evaluate and recommend mitigation strategies.

    • Produce, verify, validate, and deploy new customized signature rules such as SNORT and other IDS to detect emerging threats within the monitored environment.

  • Manage data and validate data quality, handle missing values, and normalize data. Transform and engineer features to develop a cyber data model and improve model performance

  • Develop cyber data models and by employing appropriate statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, time series analysis).

  • Evaluate cyber data model performance using relevant metrics (e.g., accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, RMSE, MAE).

  • Deploy cyber data models into production environments (e.g., cloud platforms, API endpoints). Monitor cyber data model performance over time and retrain as needed. Implement robust error handling and alerting mechanisms.

Basic Qualifications

  • An active Top Secret security clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Data Science, or a related field is required; OR Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Data Science, or a related field can be beneficial and may enhance your qualifications.

  • One of the following certifications: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional); Certified Lead Data Scientist (CLDS™); Certified Applied Data Science and AI for Cybersecurity Professionals (CADSAI-CYBER)

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in cybersecurity, data science is required.

  • Experience in leading a team, managing projects, and providing technical guidance to junior team members.

  • Have a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, data science techniques, and machine learning.

  • Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to handle security incidents and vulnerabilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with other IT teams, stakeholders, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DOE and/or NNSA site experience strongly preferred 

  • Knowledge of DOE and/or NNSA security policies and procedures 

  • Experience working in a Security Operations Center

  • Experience working in both Classified and Unclassified operations 

  • Experience working within Managed Service environments 

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with SD 205.1 

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems and implemented innovative ideas to solve customer challenges

Pay Range:

Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
