About the Role-We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our rapidly growing real estate startup. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting accounting and financial reporting functions, as well as other back-office efforts. The ideal candidate should have a strong analytical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
This is a junior role with room to learn and grow from amazing finance folks! We are looking for smart, very detail oriented, energetic junior finance folks who have had some summer internships or co-op experiences, who are tech savvy and excited about building their career. This role is in office in downtown Toronto two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Key Responsibilities


  • AP Responsibilities:
  • Process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper coding to the general ledger.
  • Manage payment processing, including check runs, ACH, and wire transfers.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of AP transactions and support month-end closing.
  • Release semi-monthly vendor payments with statements.
  • Responsible for timely responses and maintenance of Accounts Payable and finance proxy.
  • Process invoices, payments, and expense reports.
  • Accounting Responsibilities
  • Prepare journal entries, accounting reconciliations, and maintaining the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly credit card reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate receipts and documentation.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting standards, and internal financial policies.
  • Assist with monthly HST returns

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 1-2 years experience in Accounts payable, bookkeeping or general accounting (Co-Ops & Internships count!)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Nice to haves!
  • Experience in the real estate industry, or working at a tech startup is a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounting software such as Great Plains, Quickbooks, Netsuite, or similar
