Description

We are seeking a technically skilled Environmental Data Scientist or Geospatial Analyst with strong experience in quantitative environmental analysis. This individual will support, and lead data-intensive projects related to site characterization, remediation, background concentration studies, and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with geologists, hydrogeologists, chemists, and engineers to compile, transform, reduce and analyze environmental datasets and uncover meaningful insights that guide decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Environmental and Hydrogeological Data Analysis:        Analyze and interpret large, multi-media environmental datasets (soil, groundwater, sediment, air) using statistical and geostatistical techniques. This includes background concentration studies, natural attenuation evaluations, and environmental forensics. Work with project teams to prepare graphical analyses and time series plots of large datasets to support project efforts.
  • Modeling & Predictive Analytics:        Develop code that supports data analysis and visualization including pre- and post-processing of groundwater flow and contaminant transport models  but also water supply well testing and monitoring data; build and apply models to evaluate trends and geospatial variability using tools such as Python, R, and GIS platforms. Develop and implement statistical models and      machine learning algorithms to interpret data and predict trends.
  • Visualization & Reporting:        Build reproducible workflows to generate compelling data visualizations (heatmaps, trend plots, dashboards), interpolations (kriging, IDW) and write interpretive reports for internal teams and clients, including technical memos, regulatory submittals, and litigation support documents.
  • Collaboration & Support:        Interface with cross-functional teams on remedial investigations, feasibility studies, risk assessments, water supply studies and long-term monitoring programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Geography, Data Science, Geology, Chemistry or a related quantitative field.
  • Familiarity with geospatial tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS or open-source      stacks)
  • Strong Python skills, especially in data analysis (pandas, numpy), GIS (geopandas, rasterio), and ML/stats (scikit-learn, statsmodels, seaborn, matplotlib, bokeh).
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (ProUCL, RCRAStat, MATLAB) and environmental database systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental datasets, regulatory reporting structures, and chemistry QA/QC best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with 3-dimensional visualization software (EVS/MVS, LeapFrog)
  • Experience with Git, Jupyter, and collaborative coding workflows.
  • Experience  n PFAS, chlorinated solvents, metals, or petroleum hydrocarbon data interpretation.
  • Exposure to CERCLA, RCRA, or state cleanup programs.
  • Understanding of analytical methods (e.g., EPA SW-846, CLP), detection limits, and laboratory reporting conventions.
  • Experience with background concentration studies, environmental statistics, or data validation is highly desirable.
  • Bonus if you have experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, GEE), PostgreSQL/PostGIS, or web mapping tools.
