The Drone Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for developing instrumentation requirements, designing test setups such as thrust stands, dynamometers, and power measurement systems, and implementing automated test platforms using LabVIEW or similar platforms.
Additionally, this role involves initial sizing and testing of powertrain components, including motors, ESCs, propellers, and servos. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams such as battery, electricals and systems teams to ensure optimal efficiency and seamless integration into the aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Instrumentation Development & Testing
- Develop instrumentation requirements for powertrain testing (thrust stands, dynamometers, electrical load banks, power supplies).
- Design set up, and automate thrust stand experiments and powertrain validation tests.
- Utilize LabVIEW or similar platforms for test automation and data acquisition.
- Conduct speed, torque, power, and thrust profiling to validate calculations and system performance.
- Perform data post-processing and generate performance reports.
Powertrain Sizing and Optimization
- Component selection / preliminary sizing for PTP systems
- Coordinate with the battery, electricals and systems teams to ensure compatibility and integration of powertrain components.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Instrumentation/ Electrical/ Aerospace, or related engineering fields.
- Proficiency in LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or other testing and automation tools.
- Knowledge about thrust stand and dynamometer for powertrain validation.
- Exposure to Motors, ESCs, Propellers and/or system integration for UAVs/eVTOLs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
