About the Role

As the Director of Income Tax Compliance and Accounting, you will oversee the company's domestic and international income tax compliance and tax accounting functions. Your focus will be on ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient tax reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulations. You'll also optimize tax strategies, ensure compliance with tax laws, and provide technical tax accounting guidance. Expertise in U.S. corporate income tax, international tax matters, and ASC 740 compliance is crucial for success in this role.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this Role, You Will:

Tax Compliance and Accounting:

  • Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, local, and international corporate income tax returns, ensuring compliance with evolving legislation such as BEAT, GILTI, and TCJA, as well as international laws like Pillars 1 and 2, DSTs, and DPTs.

  • Manage the quarterly and annual income tax provisions and maintain deferred tax asset and liability schedules in line with ASC 740.

  • Coordinate with external advisors and tax authorities during audits, and collaborate with external auditors on tax disclosures for financial statements.

  • Identify and resolve tax accounting issues, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.

Tax Strategy and Planning:

  • Support tax strategies to optimize the effective tax rate and cash tax position, including modeling and analyzing tax attributes.

  • Provide tax guidance for business transactions like acquisitions and divestitures, and advise senior management on the impact of tax legislation and accounting changes.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor tax professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.

  • Build relationships with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, treasury, and operations, ensuring a cohesive approach to tax compliance and planning.

Process Improvement:

  • Streamline tax compliance and accounting processes, leveraging technology and automation tools to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.

  • Implement best practices for tax reporting, risk management, and governance.

You Might Thrive in this Role If You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). CPA and/or JD preferred; an advanced degree in taxation is a plus.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax compliance, tax accounting, and tax planning, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Experience with multinational corporations and U.S. federal, state, and international tax compliance, including developing scalable tax reporting processes for large companies.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP (ASC 740) and tax accounting principles, and experience with tax compliance software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

  • Deep understanding of federal and international tax laws (e.g., transfer pricing, foreign tax credits, GILTI, BEAT, FDII).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior management and cross-functional teams.
