Fueled by investments of $83M from Bessemer Ventures, Voyager Capital and social change organization Emerson Collective, Syndio is investing in growing our team and products.

This is a critical moment when organizations are looking for ways to take tangible action to fight gender and racial bias, and we believe creating diverse and inclusive workplaces for all starts with workplace equity.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Backend Developer to join our innovative AI/ML team. At Syndio, we're not just using AI; we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible with it. You'll be immersed in a cutting-edge environment where we're leveraging generative AI to revolutionize how companies approach pay transparency and pay reporting. This involves building the core infrastructure for our AI-powered products, including a sophisticated chat application that will transform how users interact with our platform.

This is a unique opportunity for a Backend Developer with a solid foundation in cloud technologies and a passion for AI/ML to contribute to a rapidly evolving field. You'll have the chance to work with the latest generative AI tools, collaborate with experienced data scientists, and help shape the future of workplace equity.

Why this job is exciting:

  • Design, develop, and deploy robust and scalable backend systems in Python to support our AI/ML initiatives.
  • Integrate with and optimize cutting-edge generative AI models and LLMs to create innovative solutions for pay transparency and pay reporting.
  • Design and develop the backend infrastructure for our AI-powered REST APIs and chat applications (using WebSockets).
  • Ensure the performance, security, and reliability of our AI/ML systems in a cloud environment.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability using tools like Splunk or Datadog.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and frontend engineers to deliver seamless and impactful user experiences.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automated workflows.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience with Python and Flask framework.
  • Experience building and deploying applications on GCP (Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience with Docker, Github, etc.
  • Solid understanding of cloud technologies and infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with WebSockets for real-time communication in chat applications.
  • Experience with observability tools like Splunk or Datadog.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and automated workflows.
  • Some experience with LLMs, even if it's just experimenting and using them.

Nice to have:

  • Frontend development experience (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Experience with Go programming language.
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Firestore).

About you:

  • You assume positive intent, are humble and eager, expect the best from yourself, value partnership over perfection, and provide grace and understanding in stressful situations
  • You value a remote work environment and know that it requires greater intentionality on your part to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • You currently reside within commuting distance of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Relocation is not currently offered.
    • Kindly note, you must also be eligible to work there legally, as we are NOT able to provide visa support at this time.

  • 🏆 Syndio Equity. So you can share in Syndio’s success.
  • 🏝 20 days annually. We encourage our team to recharge when they need to, plus paid sick & safe time, compassion leave, and voting leave.
  • 🏦 Pension Contribution
  • 📍 Remote-First (within commuting distance of Calgary) #LI-Remote

Role progression

  • First month: We'll get to know each other! You’ll understand the user problems and priorities and see how our platform can support them. You'll set up and service your development environment and be able to run the entire app and critical workflows locally. Not only that, but you'll also start handling tickets and small requests.

  • Second month: You'll deepen your understanding of user pain points and start to form an opinion on necessary improvements in the codebase or product. Expect an increasing workload, and start providing more input on building complex functionality.

  • Third month: You’ll be fully ramped up and working at full capacity! You'll share your opinions, and independently execute and break down tasks for yourself. Now's the time to start proposing technical investments and improvements. Time to innovate!
