The successful applicant will become part of a team dedicated to policy, operations, and analytical support work for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), specifically the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). A successful candidate will demonstrate competency in data analysis while upholding the highest standard of ethical behavior. 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data and presenting results to a large general audience   
  • Proactively identify and walk clients through complex data and program operations specific concerns and downstream effects  
  • Visually communicate data to CMS senior leadership on a consistent basis  
  • Discuss policy implications and client needs with software developers to help develop an intuitive management system  
  • Deliver on tight deadlines and effectively communicating with team members when additional support is needed  
  • Commit to supporting cross-functional teamwork  
  • Exemplify an outstanding client service ethic and a desire to consistently improve in an organization that is dedicated to excellence  
  • Learn and apply relevant federal policy and regulations to data analysis  
  • Understand complex and organization-specific datasets  
  • Perform analyses to answer routine and ad hoc questions about program operations, health policy, system functionality and be able to explain the significance of those analyses to non-technical stakeholders  
  • Utilize excellent interpersonal skills to interface directly with clients  
  • Develop and improve standard operating procedures  
  • Communicate with systems development experts to design tools and applications to automate the fulfillment of repeat requests  
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, PPT) skills required. Applicant may be required to perform demonstration of Excel or analytical skills.  
  • Experience in data analysis, data visualization and reporting.  
  • Experience writing automated processes in Python, R or a similar language.  
  • Superior communication and writing skills on technical subjects. Ability to provide narrative context of data analysis to a non-technical audience.  
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of new technical and policy knowledge without a lot of guidance.  
  • Strong interest in health policy.  
  • Experience producing high quality analytical deliverables with both short-term (i.e., 1 hour) and longer-term (i.e., 1+ months) lead times.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering outstanding products and service that meet or exceed our client’s expectations.  

Desired:  

  • Master’s degree or higher  
  • 3-5 years’ experience in federal consulting.  
  • 3-5 years’ experience in data analysis, data visualization and reporting in client-facing role.  
  • 3-5 years’ experience writing automated processes in Python, R or a similar language.  
  • Experience with Scrum and/or Agile methodology  
  • Experience with audits, compliance, or monitoring.  
  • Experience communicating business requirements to system development experts.
