Assistant/Deputy Manager, Data Scientist / IT Services

[What you will be working on]

  • Facilitate discussions with stakeholders to understand their business challenges and translate them into data science projects/products.
  • Lead data analytics projects to enhance management decision-making in policy, operations and resource management.
  • Apply statistical and analytics concepts and techniques in the investigation of strategic and high-risk business problems and produce insights and recommendations for management and stakeholders.
  • Engage in all phases of data and analytics projects, from conceptualization, data ingestion, data preparation, analysis and model development, machine learning prototype, data visualisation, as well as sharing of insights and recommendations.
  • Adopt best practices for data cleaning, preparation, and analysis, constantly reviewing the quality of results.
  • Create, maintain, and optimise data pipelines as workloads transit from development to production.  
  • Coordinate key deliverables and timelines with stakeholders, managing expectations of key outcomes.
  • Collaborate with business domain experts, as well as technical counterparts such as the wider Polytechnic-ITE Community to co-create impactful and innovative data-driven solutions.
  • Explain complex technical insights and recommendations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Work closely with end users, data engineers, project managers, and vendors in planning, development, scaling up, and delivery of solutions
  • Perform technical assessments on the maturity, viability, and suitability of Analytics and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) research, technologies, and trends.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in Data Science, AI/ML and related domains

[What we are looking for]

  • Qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Possesses a combination of IT, communication, data management and analytics skills.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in a data analytics role or data management disciplines with applications of advanced analytics techniques such as text analytics, data mining, clustering, artificial intelligence / machine learning frameworks and libraries, modelling, natural language processing (NLP), recommendation system, optimisation, and simulation.
  • Hands-on expertise in the use of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and experience with one or more database or data warehouse products such as MSSQL, Oracle or AWS Redshift.  
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams, as well as being curious, creative, organised and detail-oriented.
  • Experience in data analysis and have knowledge of big data processing framework and tools (e.g. SQL, Spark, Hadoop, MapReduce).
  • Experience in Dashboard Design with Power BI, ETL and Data Lake House with AWS S3 and Redshift, as well as AI/ML Ops solution development and deployment using AWS Sagemaker is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing (e.g., AWS/Azure) including implementation of past projects using Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) will be advantageous.
